The 2024 San Francisci Comedy Competition has selected its Semifinalists. The Top Five comics from Round One and Round Two of Preliminaries compete for just five spots to advance to the Finals
This contest is tough. It’s not only the oldest comedy competitions in the US, it attracts a lot of really great comics. I am seeing great comedians and wondering how do they break out so the world can join in on the fun. And then I remember it’s through events like the San Francisco Comedy Competition.
Who would believe you could have a really great comedy show in a winery in Carmel, it’s not a old wives tale, it’s a Folktale and when the wine flows, a story usually follows.

One of the fantastic things about shows in old preserved theaters is you get to see some fabulous interiors that you simply do not see in modern theaters. The Orinda Theatre is such a place with a long history, fantastic marquee and tonight, really great comedy.

The 2024 San Francisco Comedy Competition kicks off Preliminary Week Two this Wednesday with a Comedy Oakland show at the Washington Inn.
We have 16 really great comics in Week One and it would be great to see this show keep running. But it is a content and only the top five comedians move on to compete in the Semifinals.
The Crows Nest is always a wild comedy ride and tonight was no different. Why this show is so notorious has to do with the fact it is the final show of the week. The place has been doing comedy for decades and it’s reputation as a wild venue is well deserved.
The official results are in. Afternoon comedy in an old movie house is a great experience. We had our first tie in fifth place, so there’s seven people in the Top Five.
