Clara Bijl — Berkeley

Clara Bijl is an internationally unknown stand-up comedian and writer. Clara grew up in the French Alps and learned English by listening to rap music before attending college in South Carolina, as one does when coming from France. Upon graduation, she moved to New York City to become a stand-up comedian. She thought her English was serviceable until someone asked her if she was deaf. That’s when she decided to study with a speech therapist. Clara has since performed stand-up comedy without an accent around the world.

She has two tours of Edinburgh Fringe Festival under her belt, she’s appeared in a bunch of comedy festivals across the world, she has 2 comedy albums, she’s hosted corporate events, fundraisers, award shows, zoom parties. She wrote for a Swiss comedy TV show, yes, they have comedy in Switzerland; it’s neutral. She punched up scripts, wrote a sitcom about refugees. Clara wrote an original screenplay, “For Better or For Worse,” it has been invited to 12 festivals and contests so far. She’s currently on pre-production for another film she wrote, “The Come up.”

The truth is that Clara lives for the material, everything she does is to create content: the volunteering, the kids, the marriage, the raising the French cats in America, it’s all for comedy. In closing, Clara recently became a U.S. citizen, and man; it’s great being American.
